Restlebensdauer von Kunststoffrohren nach einer Betriebszeit von 41 Jahren

A study on pipes made from Hostalen GM5010, which have been in operation since 1961, evaluates the predicted 50-year minimum lifespan through new investigations into their remaining lifespan.

The first pipes made from low-pressure polyethylene or high-density polyethylene were produced on an industrial scale in 1954. In the energy supply system of Farbwerke Hoechst, formerly Meister Lucius and Brüning, Frankfurt-Höchst, pipes made from Hostalen GM5010 were used for water supply in 1961. These pipes remained in continuous operation until 2002.

The graphical extrapolation of the long-term internal pressure performance of pipes made from this material at that time predicted a minimum service life of 50 years. The following investigations into the remaining service life aim to verify this prediction.
