Checking of the required long-term tensile welding factor and the minimum time of welded joints made of polyethylene
The publication explains the testing procedure described in Supplement 3 of DVS Guideline 2203-4 for evaluating thermoplastic weld joints, which eliminates the need for unwelded reference samples and provides additional information on minimum service life.
DVS Guideline 2203-4 deals with the evaluation of the quality of welded joints in thermoplastics based on the long-term weld factor. This factor is largely dependent on the quality of the preparation of unwelded reference samples.
Supplement 3 complements DVS Guideline 2203-4 and describes a method for verifying the required weld factor as well as the minimum service life of the examined weld joint. The testing effort is comparable to the previous method for determining the long-term tensile welding factor. However, this method has the advantage of not requiring the testing of unwelded reference samples and also provides additional information on the minimum service life of weld joints under individual application conditions.
This article provides background information on the fundamentals of the testing procedure described in Supplement 3 of DVS Guideline 2203-4.
